Ethel the Frog (1976-1980): a NWOBHM band from Hull, UK.
Named after a Monty Python's Flying Circus sketch, Ethel The Frog, featuring the membership of Paul "Doug" Sheppard (lead guitar), Paul Tognola (vocals/lead guitar), Terry Hopkinson (vocals/bass) and Paul Conyers (drums), made their debut to the world on the 'EMI' 1980 compilation Metal For Muthas Vol. I, the same album as Iron Maiden, but unlike Iron Maiden their featured track, Fight Back, was not much more than basic heavy metal. Their debut 1980 self-titled album also failed to grab the world by the lapels. Disillusioned, they split later that same year. In 1997 a CD release of the debut on small record label, 'British Steel', was released. In 1981 Conyers and Tognola went off to found Salem.
