Absurd (1992-1994, 1998-2012, 2017-2019, 2019-present): a NSBM band from Sondershausen, Thuringia, Germany.
German National Socialist black metal band, Absurd has been classified as a "right-wing extremist" group by the Thuringian Landesbehörde für Verfassungsschutz. Absurd received the label NSBM, for the lyrical period on albums between 1995 and 1999 where their lyrics center around nationalistic, pagan, pro-heathen revivalist Germanic, and anti-Judeo-Christian themes. (Möbus being the founder of the Deutsche Heidnische Front). The act have traditionally worked with less controversial morbid and barbaric themes otherwise.

Founded in Sondershausen by Hendrik Möbus (a.k.a. Randall Flagg/Jarl Flagg Nidhögg and JFN) and Sebastian Schauseil in 1992, with Andreas Kirchner, joining later.

The act started while the membership were still in high school and quickly gained infamy for the killing of 15-year-old Sandro Beyer in 1993. The motive for the killing has been documented in many sources but, in general, the killing of schoolmate Beyer was because the boy would frequently hang around the young Absurd members despite the members not wanting him to. Eventually Beyer resulted to writing slander and condemning the group for their Satanic views. A final threat posed by Beyer was that he intended to expose an affair one of the band members was having with a mother of a student enrolled at the school. Möbus's girlfriend got involved when she tricked Beyer into believing she was on his side and arranged him to meet at a certain point in a nearby forest at 8:00 PM. Beyer arrived to the location as planned only to find it was a setup. The whole band was there and they led him to a nearby shed, where they proceeded to strangle him with an electrical cable. The members were collectively charged with murder and released in late 1998. JFN was incarcerated again shortly after for various crimes, including fleeing from Germany to the United States in order to hide from the police, where he was arrested.

While the convicted members of Absurd were in jail, the band was called In Ketten (German for "In Chains") where the recorded a single demo.

When they got free, several recordings managed to come to surface as Absurd in the form of Thuringian Pagan Madness EP (1995) and and Facta Loquuntur (1996).

It would be brother Ronald Möbus (vocals) along with Sven Zimper (guitars/bass/drums/vocals) who would resurrect the act to record Werwolfthron (2002; Asgardsrei EP (1999) being a resurrection left-over from the original membership that closed shop in 1999). This new incarnation would remain thru the Totenlieder (2003), Raubritter EP (2004), Blutgericht (2005), Grimmige Volksmusik EP (2005), Der fünfzehnjährige Krieg (2008), Größer als der Tod EP (2014) and Weltenfeind EP (2020). Pure Darkness (2020) and Grabgesang EP (2021) that saw Alexander Halac on guitars.
