Brian Brain (1980-1986): a Punk band from Coventry, UK.
Drummer Martyn Atkins cut his teeth in a band called Mynd before being snapped up by John Lydon (ex-Johnny Rotten of Sex Pistols) for his avant-garde punk style in Public Image Ltd. on their live set Paris Au Printemps in 1980, after which he departed only to return a year later. During this absence, he released a set of releases on the 'Secret' label under the name Brian Brain. These releases were mostly nothing more than novelty and experiments with the conspiracy of Bobby Surgeoner (vocals/guitar) and Pete Jones (bass). After leaving Public Image Ltd. a second time, Brain returned to his own project to deliver a few low key disasters: Unexpected Noises (1980), Culture EP (1981) and Fun With Music (1986; with Margot Olavarria (bass) replacing Jones who returned to "PiL'). He then went off to join Killing Joke and Pigface in the 90s.
