But soon after forming the Dream or Nightmare banner, the line-up would change to feature Joe Sims (guitar), Jim Arnold (vocals/guitar/keyboards), Dave Rhynard (vocals/bass) and Russ Kirk (drums) to combine several styles of metal to create an original and unique sound. Now more than just basic thrash style they would include traditional, modern, and progressive metal on top of the old thrash, but also several other musical genres, a sound present in two demos released in 2001 and 2002 respectively; the first a self-titled, followed by the debut full length, Light Burning Bright Till The Dawn, CD in 2004.
Through the vocal combination of Dave Rhynard and Jim Arnold Dream or Nightmare's sound became more diverse by being both heavy and more melodic to compliment the aggressive and complex guitar work and keyboards of Jim Arnold, the heavy progressive bass of Dave Rhynard, and the energy of drummer Russ Kirk. The new CD displayed a definite maturity in style, a style continued in a more recent demo release (which featured the band's previous singer). Joe Sims, however, would leave in 2006 to rejoin the reforming Axemaster.
