AvengerBIOGRAPHYAvenger (1982-1986, 2005-2007, 2007-present): a NWOBHM band from Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. E merging in 1983 Avanger started with Brian Ross (ex- Blitzkrieg; vocals) and Mick Moore (bass; both ex-Blitzkrieg) at the helm. Adding Gary Young (drums) and Lee Cheetham (guitar) they would release their debut 45 Too Wild To Tame, later that same year. Trading places with Ian Swift (of Satan) Ross left prior to the completion of their debut full length Blood Sports (1984). With American Greg Reiter taking over the empty guitar spot once held by Cheetham they released their second set, Killer Elite, (1985). American Darren Kurland then replaced Young on drums but the band split shortly after when Swift swiftly left to join Atomkraft. Les Cheetham (with Dave Irwin of Fist) played guitar as a stand-in for Mantas on Venom's 1985 US tour. The band reformed in 2005. In 2007, they changed their name to Avenger UK due to (according to a press release) a conflict between themselves and former bass player Mick Moore. Adding to the decision was that over the years of their absence other bands had adopted the name.
