teve Bridges (vocals), Montalo (Real Name: Trevor Taylor; guitar), Andro Coulton (bass) and Gra Scoresby (drums) got together in 1976 to form Witchfynde and scored a deal with the 'Rondelet' label at the birth of the NWOBHM movement. Their influences included the Heavy rock of the 1970s and incorporated occult lyrics that could be attributed today to the black metal movement. Their debut Give 'Em Hell (1980) was quickly followed-up with Stage Fright later that year. Although their debut could lead one to believe they were following in the footsteps of the black metal movement, that perception went no farther than the first album.

Receiving only a cult following, a line-up change ensued with Luther Beltz replacing Bridges and Pete Sugey replacing Coulton resulting in Cloak and Dagger in 1983 to equally little notice outside of their fan base.

Edo Wolfe stepped in to replace Surgey for their final set Lords of Sin (1984) on the 'Mausoleum' label. The act split shortly after with only the The Best of Witchfynde "best of..." compilation following posthumously in 1996.
