ith the membership of Dan Clements (vocals/lyrics), Shaun Ross (bass), Adam Siegel (guitars) and Greg Saenz (drums) by the time the debut, Split Image, arrived in 1987, Excel had been around for two years. Formerly named, Chaotic Noise between 1983 and 1985, Excel would follow-up their debut with The Joke's on You in 1989.

In 1995, Excel would arrive with Seeking Refuge in tow, along with Max Asher on drums, and Brandon Rudley (R.I.P. 2000) on guitars. The act would split in 1999.

Excel would reform in 2012 to feature the live set Live 1985-1992 in 2018.
