Iron AngelBIOGRAPHYIron Angel (1983-1986, 1997-2007, 2015-2022, 2024-2025): a Thrash Metal band from Hamburg, Germany. B eing an example of early German thrash metal Iron Angel played a crunchy, speedy, energetic form of thrash similar to then-labelmates Destruction. Although they originally formed in 1980 under the moniker Metal Gods, it would be in 1983 that they reformed and released Hellish Crossfire in 1985 under the membership of Peter Wittke (R.I.P. 2000; guitars (rhythm)/guitars (lead); tracks 1, 5, 6), Dirk Schröder (R.I.P. 2025; vocals), Sven Strüven (R.I.P. 2008; guitars (rhythm, lead)), Mike Matthes (drums) and Thorsten Lohmann (bass). Winds of War would follow the next year. The band would split soon after in 1986. In 1997 Iron Angel reformed and struggled to keep members, releasing only box sets and compilations. Iron Angel would reform again in 2015 to finally release a new album in then form of 2018's Hellbound under the membership of Schröder now with Didy Mackel (bass), Mischi Meyer (guitars), Maximilian Behr (drums) and Robert Altenbach (guitars). In 2020, Emerald Eyes would arrive, now with Nino Helfrich on guitars. The death of Schröder in 2025 would end Read All... ⏬ the band. Footnote: In 1986, Peter Wittke and Günther Moritz, temporarily replaced Thorsten Lohmann on Iron Angel's Germany tour with King Diamond; he later founded Roots.
