GenocideBIOGRAPHYGenocide (1979-1990): a Heavy Metal band from Japan. N o doubt there have been many heavy metal bands named Genocide over the years. This version was Japanese, formed in 1979, and attained a fair degree of underground success in their homeland in the early eighties. In 1986 they recorded their debut album, which was released two years later as Black Sanctuary under the membership of Toshihiro Takeuchi (vocals), Kazuo Amaya (guitars), Kouichi Kawakami (guitars), Shigeo Kawasaki (bass) and Yasushi Kojima (drums). The debut would be followed-up with the live set The Rites (2001) and the The Ritual Days compilation in 2007 as well as a re-issue of Black Sanctuary in 2009. The band soldiered on until 1990 at which time they folded. Nine years later, a reunion concert took place in Osaka, and there was talk of a second album in the works, but it is unclear if anything ever came of this. ** This article is also available on our official app.
