Running Wild (1979-2009, 2011-present): a Speed Metal band from Hamburg, Germany.

ormed in 1976 as Granite Hearts, they changed it to Running Wild in 1979; a name taken from the Judas Priest song with the same name on their 1978 Killing Machine album, Running Wild debuted with the Victim of States Power EP (1984) under the membership of Rock 'n' Rolf (Real Name: Rolf Kasparek; vocals/guitars), Preacher (Real Name: Gerald Warnecke; guitars), Stephan Boriss (bass/vocals (backing)) and Hasche (Real Name: Wolfgang Hagemann; drums). The full-length debut, Gates to Purgatory followed.

For Branded and Exiled (1985) Majk (Real Name: Michael Kupper; guitars (lead)/vocals (backing); R.I.P. 2023) was the new member. Under Jolly Roger (1987), Port Royal (1988) and Death or Glory (1989) followed; the latter featuring Iain Finlay (drums/lyrics: tracks 2, 3, 6-9/songwriting: track 5). Bad to the Bone (EP; 1989) and Wild Animal (EP; 1990) followed.

Little Big Horn EP (1991) saw AC (Real Name: Rüdiger Dreffein; drums/vocals (backing)) as did Blazon Stone (1991) and The First Years of Piracy (1991).

Pile of Skulls (1992) with Thomas Smuszynski was next in the bass and backing vocals, but a major change happened with Black Hand Inn (1994) for the drum spot with Jörg Michael and Thilo Hermann on lead guitars, also for Masquerade (1995).The Rivalry EP and album of the same title followed in 1998.

Victory (2000) saw the drums once more in flux to see Angelo Sasso (R.I.P. 2007) take them. Peter Pichl (bass/vocals (backing, tracks 7, 8)) was now in for The Brotherhood (2002). But the drums again changed hands for Rogues en Vogue (2005) with Matthias Liebetruth (drums).

The next albums, Shadowmaker (2012), Resilient (2013) and Rapid Foray (2016) saw the band as a two-piece featuring Peter Jordan on guitars (lead) along side Rock 'n' Rolf.

Ole Hempelmann (bass/vocals (backing)) and Michael Wolpers (drums) moved in for Crossing the Blades (2019), New Gems and Live Treasures, and Blood on Blood (2021).
