PuyaBIOGRAPHYPuya (1995-present): a Heavy Metal band from Puerto Rico. O ne of the very few rock/heavy metal bands to originate from Puerto Rico, Puya began life under the name Whisker Biscuit to release a demo in 1994. After assuming the name Puya, they put out the debut album, Puya (1995), under the membership of Sergio Curbelo (vocals/percussion), Ramon Ortiz (guitars/backing vocals/percussion), Harold Hopkins (bass/backing vocals/percussion) and Eduardo Paniagua (drums/backing vocals), before moving to Florida, where they attracted the interest of 'MCA Records'. Fundamental, their major-label debut, garnered quite a bit of publicity due to their use of both heavy metal and traditional Latin rhythms in their music. Featuring the same line-up, Puya returned with Fundamental (1998), Union (2001) and Areyto (EP; 2010).
