reaking up in 2020 to split into two camps, the majority of the membership reforming as Scars Of Atrophy, while Brian Zimmerman carried on as Atrophy, got its start under the name Heresy from back in 1986, but by 1987 they had assumed the Atrophy name and after successive line-up changes they would eventually release Socialized Hate (1988) under the line-up of Brian Zimmerman (vocals), Chris Lykins (guitars), Rick Skowron (guitars), James Gulotta (bass) and Tim Kelly (drums), with Violent by Nature (1990) following before the split.

The reformation under the membership of Brian Zimmerman (vocals), Mark Coglan (guitars (rhythm)), Nathan Montalvo (guitars (lead)), Josh Gibbs (bass) and Jonas Schütz (drums) would re-debut with Asylum (2024).
