BIOGRAPHY

Midnattsol (2002-present): a Folk Metal band from Hamburg, Germany.

eaning "midnight sun" on Norwegian, Midnattsol started in 2002 to release their debut Where Twilight Dwells (2005) under the membership of Carmen Elise Espenæs (vocals, lyrics: tracks 1, 3-10), Daniel Droste (guitars), Daniel Fischer (keyboards), Birgit Ollbrunner (bass), Chris Merzinsky (drums) and Christian Hector (guitars/mouth harp/lyrics: tracks 2, 11). Three years later the sophomore release, Nordlys, would follow, with The Metamorphosis Melody (2011) next in line featuring Alex Kautz (guitars (electric, acoustic)).

The Aftermath (2018) would see Stephan Adolph (guitars/bass/drums/vocals) and Liv Kristine Espenæs (vocals) in the fold.

Although their sound can be classified as symphonic metal, the band prefers to call their style "Nordic folk metal" because of the folk elements in their music and occasional Norwegian lyrics.
