AcheronBIOGRAPHYAcheron (1988-1992, 1994-2010, 2010-2016, 2017-2018, 2024-present): a Death Metal band from Tampa, Florida, USA. F eaturing a variety of well-known death metal musicians over time as their lineup has frequently changed surrounding founder, guitarist Vincent Crowley, Acheron performs a mid-paced Satanic death metal, with heavy, down-tuned, guitar riffs and atmospheric keyboards. They started off with the Rites of the Black Mass (1992) debut album under the membership of Peter Slate (guitars), Vincent Crowley (vocals/bass) and James Strauss (drums). The follow-up, Lex Talionis (1994), true to form, saw a line-up change to now feature Crowley with Mike Browning (drums/lyrics) and Vincent Breeding (guitars), while the Satanic Victory EP later that same year, as well as Hail Victory (1995), saw Tony Blakk on rhythm guitars. Anti-God, Anti-Christ (1996) would see John Scott (R.I.P. 2014; keyboards), Michael Estes (R.I.P. 2020; guitars (lead)) and Richard Christy (drums). The follow-up EP, Necromanteion Communion (1998) featured Tony Laureano on drums for track 1 with Christy on the second. Those Who Have Risen (1998) would follow. Rebirth: Metamorphosing into Godhood (2003) had the band reduced to a three-piece without Werner. Two more compilations followed, along with another line-up change, before the release of The Final Conflict: Last Days of God (2009) whereby the entire string section had been replaced with Maximus Otworth and Ash Thomas on guitars and backing vocals both. Kult des Hasses (2014) once again saw the band as a three-piece to feature Crowley and Severn now with Art Taylor on guitars. In 2024 a whole new line-up was announced to feature Art Taylor (guitars), Eric Stewart (guitars), Ryan Arter (drums) along side Crowley for festival shows. Footnote: An interesting note is the band name means "river of woe", and is one of the five rivers that flow through the realm of Hades in Greek mythology. In another note, Crowley was a member of the Church of Satan, rising to the level of "Reverend", a title he gave up when he resigned that organization in 1999, two years after the death of Dr. Anton Szandor LaVey's death.
