NunslaughterBIOGRAPHYNunslaughter (1987-2015, 2016-present): a Death Metal band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. H ailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania then later relocating to Cleveland, Ohio, and forming in 1987, Nunslaughter is a band that has carved its name into death metal history with a relentless assault of raw and unfiltered death metal, referred to as "Devil Metal" because of its themes of Satanism, death, anti-Christianity, and blasphemy. The birth of Nunslaughter can be dated to 1985 under the original name of Death Sentence where they released a single demo consisting of Don of the Dead (bass), Jer the Butcher (guitar), Gregoroth (vocals) and Behemoth Bill (drums). This formation was short-lived, as the band underwent several lineup changes in its formative years before assuming the current name in 1987. Nunslaughter's discography is extensive, with a series of demos, EPs, and full-length albums that document the band's evolution and the revolving door of its membership, some of the highlights include: The demo Ritual of Darkness (1987) featured the original lineup this before Jer and Bill were replaced by Rick Rancid (guitar) and John Sicko (drums). After The Rotting Christ (1989), their second demo, Gregoroth and Sicko departed, leading Don to take over vocals and Von the Impaler to take drums. Their debut album, Hell's Unholy Fire (2000), was a significant release for the band after a significant number of EPs, demos and live sets. By this time, the band had seen the return and subsequent departure of Gregoroth and Jer the Butcher, with Jim Sadist joining on drums. Goat (2003) was another seminal album in the band's discography, showcasing the band's continued commitment to its signature sound despite ongoing lineup changes now with Don of the Dead on vocals with Duaniac (guitars), Grim (bass) and Sadist (R.I.P. 2015; drums/vocals (tracks 6, 15)). Hex (2007), Angelic Dread (2014) and Red Is the Color of Ripping Death (2021) would follow between numerous EPs, live sets and compilations with an ever changing membership. In recent years the band faced a significant challenge with the illness of longtime drummer Jim Sadist. In 2015, Don of the Dead announced a hiatus, and following the death later that year but to honor his legacy resumed operations not long after.
