Holy MosesBIOGRAPHYHoly Moses (1980-1994, 2001-2023): a Thrash Metal band from Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. F orming in 1980, Holy Moses would debut with a demo that same year in the form of Black Metal Masters under the membership of Ramon Brüssler (bass), Peter Vonderstein (drums) and Jochen Fünders (vocals/guitars) while the members were still in high school. Several more demos would pass involving several membership changes resulting with Queen of Siam (1986) under the almost entirely new line-up of Sabina Classen (vocals), Andy Classen (guitars) and Herbert Dreger (R.I.P. 2012; drums) along side Brüssler. It was after this that the band became well noted for being fronted by Classen, who, from this point forward would be the only constant member of Holy Moses, and for being one of the first German thrash metal bands. Finished with the Dogs (1987) would open with yet another line-up change in the form of nineteen year old André Chapelier (bass) along with Uli Kusch (drums/vocals (backing)), a change instigated by Paul Linzenich (drums; 1981-1984 on demos) previously leaving to focus on his university studies forever leaving the drums stool in flux, and Dreger being sacked for not showing up to a support show with Agent Steel, and Brüssler (the only original member of Holy Moses remaining), left. Finished with the Dogs was a much heavier and cleaner-sounding album than its predecessor. The album was a critical success around the world, earning the band a distribution deal through 'Warner Music Group' (WEA) and tours of Europe with Angel Dust, Rage, Steeler, Paganini, D.R.I. and Holy Terror, finishing with a headlining show in Hamburg. The EP Road Crew (1987) followed. Thomas Becker assumed bass for The New Machine of Liechtenstein (1989) and World Chaos (1990). The next line-up change would be with 1991's Terminal Terror with Benny Schnell (bass) and Frank Ullrich (drums). While Reborn Dogs (1992) saw Sven Herwig take drums. The bass position would once again change hands when Dan Lilker took it, and piano, for No Matter What's the Cause (1994). These last three albums, however saw the band in flux with the regular change of membership due to Laws (on guitars (1988-1990) but not recorded) quitting due to illness and retired to focus his skills as a graphic artist, leaving the band as a four-piece. World Chaos would be released through 'West Virginia Records', an independent label owned by new band manager Uli Wiehagen. Kusch soon quit the band to join Gamma Ray to eventually be replaced in 1992 by Sven "Meff" Hervig, who played all drums on Terminal Terror (1991) as a session drummer. Soon after the release of Reborn Dogs, Classen left and the band subsequently dissolved. Classen went to form Temple of the Absurd with Warpath members Schrödey and Ozzy Frese, and drummer Mike Rech. In 1999, during touring for the second Temple of the Absurd album, Classen collapsed on stage and was hospitalized, falling into a serious illness then later suffered a motorcycle crash in 2000. Following this, Temple of the Absurd disbanded and Sabina began to work with Andy again on what would eventually become new Holy Moses material resulting in a reformation in early 2001 under the membership of Julien Schmidt (drums), Jörn Schubert (guitars) and Franky Brotz (guitars) with returning members Classen (vocals) and Fünders (guitars/vocals/bass) resulting in the Master of Disaster (2001) EP. Andreas Libera took bass for Disorder of the Order (2002). But the bass was once again swapped for Strength Power Will Passion (2005) with Michael Hankel (guitars) and Alex De Blanco (bass). A refreshed membership was once brought in for Agony of Death (2008) featuring Classen (vocals) and Hankel (guitars/vocals (backing) with Oliver Jaath (guitars (rhythm)/vocals (backing)), Thomas Neitsch (bass) and Atomic Steif (Real Name: Guido Richter; drums). Gerd Lücking took drums for 30th Anniversary: In the Power of Now (2012), Redefined Mayhem (2014) and Invisible Queen (2023), the second and third featuring Peter Geltat (guitars/vocals (backing)). The band split soon after.
