SleepBIOGRAPHYSleep (1990-1998, 2009-2019, 2022-present): a Stoner Metal band from San Jose, California, USA. A merican stoner metal/doom metal band Sleep was started in San Jose, California from the ashes of Asbestosdeath by guitarist Matt Pike and bassist/vocalist Al Cisneros who have been the only constant members throughout the band's history. The band released their debut album, Volume One, in 1991 under the membership of Luke Cisneros (bass/vocals), Matt Pike (guitars/vocals), Justin Marler (guitars/vocals) and Chris Hakius (drums). In 2003 the original version of Dopesmoker was officially released by 'Tee Pee Records' to become generally considered the definitive version of the album. The band reformed in 2009 to release The Sciences (2018) under the membership of Al Cisneros (bass/vocals), Matt Pike (guitars) and new drummer Jason Roeder of Neurosis fame. During the band's break up between 1998 and 2003 Matt Pike went on to form High on Fire, while Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius formed Om.
