AdemaBIOGRAPHYAdema (2000-present): a Nu-Metal band from Bakersfield, California, USA. A merican rock band Adema formed in 2000 in Bakersfield, California, USA, the same town as Korn. With members Mark Chavez (vocals), Tim Fluckey (guitar), Mike Ransom (guitar), Dave DeRoo (bass) and Kris Kohls. Before Adema, lead vocalist Mark Chavez (who is the half-brother of Korn's lead vocalist, Jonathan Davis), played guitar for B.P.D. (Big, Powerful, and Dangerous), while guitarist Tim Fluckey formerly played with Juice along with bassist Dave DeRoo, who previously played with Sexart along with Orgy guitarist Ryan Shuck and future Korn vocalist, the aforementioned, Jonathan Davis. Guitarist Mike Ransom formerly played saxophone for ska style punkrock act Mento Buru, and drummer Kris Kohls formerly played with Cradle of Thorns. The band's eponymous debut album was released in August 2001 to moderate success. In 2002, Adema released the Insomniac's Dream EP as a "gift to fans." The single Immortal, was deliberately written for the video game Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. Besides the single, the album also included a track from international versions of Adema, a cover of Alice In Chains' Nutshell, and four remix versions of songs from Adema. 2002 also marked the band's inclusion in the Resident Evil Soundtrack with Everyone taken from from their debut album Adema. Despite the band preferring the brand themselves as traditional rock, resisting the label's attempt to brand them as nu-metal due to their sound (this latest album not far from their previous), the genre name stuck. The album proved to not be the breakthrough the act wanted by selling some 66% less than the previous effort. Where it failed in sales it's namesake succeeded with the band, for soon after, Unstable is what the band became. Chavez and Ransom had a bitter rivalry that ended in both Ransom and then Chavez leaving the band. During 2003, during the support tour for Unstable, Chavez and Ransom didn't speak to one another. The band claimed that the split was no surprise. Ransom left in December, leaving the remaining four members to finish touring. Less than a year later, Chavez would follow suit. Luke Caraccioli, vocalist from fellow Bakersfield band, Rewind Yesterday would be recruited. For Planets (2005), the act signed to 'Earache Records' and discovered they gained more creative freedom than the previous label had allowed. The resulting album was musically a significant break from Adema's earlier efforts by being much more rock than nu-metal. In comparison to the previous albums, which featured heavy usages of programming and synthesizers, Planets featured stronger piano melodies and guitar-driven harmonics. In October 2005, Caraccioli left the band, citing personal reasons, after only 10 months. In March 2006, Adema hired vocalist, Bobby Reeves and, that August, guitarist Ed Faris, both former members of another Bakersfield act, the now defunct Level. With their new lineup, the band signed onto 'Immortal Records' to released Kill the Headlights (2007). After break, the band regrouped. Reeves and Faris had left, and Chavez was back in, as was Fluckey and Mr. Ransom with all differences apparently now settled. But Chavez abruptly left Adema once again before the start of the 2011 tour to pursue his solo project. Fluckey and DeRoo would jointly assume vocal duties, along with their other instruments. Chavez came back for one more try in 2017 but nothing came of it and he was gone again by 2019, with Ryan Shuck now assuming his role. Ransom would leave again in 2010 but returned in 2013 to stay. 2011-2013 saw Marc DeLeon play session rhythm guitar and session bass. Back in January 2011, DeRoo was arrested just prior to performing a concert in Connecticut, and was charged with being a fugitive of the law. A warrant for his arrest was issued back in July 2010 for violating his probation issued from a prior DUI in November 2008. DeRoo's bond was set at US $1 million. Being contractually obligated to fulfill their already scheduled 2011 tour dates the remaining members performed the concerts while he settled his legal issues. During all this fluxuating memberships, the only recording that came was Topple the Giants EP (2013) but by 2022 it settled down to see the release of 360 Degrees of Separation (2022). Read Less... ⏫
