lending several metal genres seamlessly by incorporating elements of progressive metal, black metal (the term "post-black metal" has often used to describe this band, whatever that may mean), with plenty of vocal variety from leader Birgir Thorgeirsson (vocals/guitars/bass). Formerly known as Pornea, Kontinuum's first album, Earth Blood Magic (2012), was recorded as a duo, with Thorgeirsson and drummer Kristján Heiôarsson.

For the follow-up, Kyrr (2015), the band was fattened up with Thorgeirsson recruiting Thorlakur Gudmundsson (guitars), Ingi Pálsson (guitars), Engilbert Hauksson (bass) and new drummer Kristján Gudmonsson (drums). This line-up would remain in place for No Need to Reason (2018).
