Crumbsuckers (1982-1990): a Thrash Metal band from Baldwin, New York, USA.

rossover thrash metal band Crumbsuckers was originally formed by bass player Gary Meskil in 1982. Crumbsuckers amalgamated thrash metal and hardcore punk sounds and themes. Under the membership of Dave Brady (vocals), Dave Wynn (guitar), Gary Meskil (bass) and Kevin 'Toast' Carroll (drums) the act would debut with the five-track demo unofficially called The Crumbsucker Cave (1983; the name given to the place where Crumbsuckers used to rehearse).

In 1985, looking for a sharper edge, the early band added a second guitarist in the form of local resident Chuck Lenihan, and replaced Carroll with local 16-year-old drummer, Dan Richardson. The act would then take a more heavy metal style.

When Brady left, the band recruited ex-hardcore band Krakdown vocalist, Chris Notaro. This would enter the band's golden time, for after the release of Life of Dreams (1986), the act made an immediate impact on the wider scene.

In the spring of 1987, Wynn left and, after a few guitarists came and went, Robbie Koebler would assume the job for their sophomore album Beast on My Back (the acronym B.O.M.B.). The album was most notable for opening with a passage of a dark, melancholic piano, played by Lenihan's cousin, Mike Francis; a piece different from other metal/crossover albums of the time. A year later, Marc Piovanetti (ex-Carnivore) joined Crumbsuckers as a full-time guitarist to replace Wynn but soon after returning home from their European Tour, Haggerty was fired and replaced with a local singer, Craig Allen.

The new hard rock style that was sweeping the band encouraged them to change their name to Heavy Rain. Under this configuration their sound offered a more radio-friendly sound. Despite the quality of the material, record companies showed little interest causing the band to shut down in 1990.

In 1991, Lenihan began jamming with ex-(Stormtroopers of Death (S.O.D.) and M.O.D.) vocalist Billy Milano, for a new project called Rawhead. Meskil and Richardson came on board but a revolving door of guitarists ensued. Lenihan would eventually be dismissed to be replaced by Al Zaleski, but in turn was eventually replaced by Tom Klimchuck, who would eventually take a sabbatical from the band. After several more line-up changes Meskil renamed the project Pro-Pain, the act would then release only few albums but carried on past the turn of the century.
