The Black Dahlia MurderBIOGRAPHYThe Black Dahlia Murder (2001-present): a Death Metal band from Waterford, Michigan, USA. D eriving their name from the 1947 unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short, known as the "Black Dahlia", the melodic death metal band of the same name began its tenure during late 2000 to achieve its first stable band lineup by January 2001 with the release of the demo What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse (2001), and a four-track EP, A Cold-Blooded Epitaph (2002), eventually signing to 'Metal Blade Records' in 2003. Unhallowed (2003), their debut album, and debut for 'Metal Blade Records', would feature the line-up of Trevor Strnad (lead vocals), Brian Eschbach (rhythm guitar/backing vocals), John Kempainen (lead guitar), David Lock (bass) and Cory Grady (drums). It would be the follow-up Miasma (2005), with Zach Gibson on drums, that saw them their first charting by peaking at 118 on the Billboard 200. Their third effort, Nocturnal (2007) , gave them a 72 charting on the Billboard 200. Longtime lead guitarist, John Kempainen would leave in 2009 and was replaced by Ryan Knight. That same year, Black Dahlia Murder would release their first DVD, Majesty, containing a documentary and live footage from their previous Summer Slaughter Tour with Kataklysm, Cryptopsy, Vader, Whitechapel, and Despised Icon, as well as their tour supporting Children of Bodom in late 2008. It would also feature all of their music videos and behind the scenes footage. Ritual (2011) would follow. Max Lavelle and Alan Cassidy would now step in to take over bass and drums respectively for Everblack (2013), an album that would peak at 32 on the U.S. Billboard 200. On November 28, 2014, The Black Dahlia Murder released the 7" EP, Grind 'Em All featuring 3 grindcore covers of punk rock songs Ripped Up (Left for Dead), Rebel Without a Car (Sedition) and Populous (Gyga). The covers were originally recorded some 10 years earlier but released now as a part of Record Store Day's Black Friday event via 'A389 Recordings' - a side deal outside of their business with 'Metal Blade'. Abysmal (2015), Nightbringers (2017) and Verminous (2020) would arrive with Alan Cassidy on drums and Brandon Ellis would assume lead guitar and backing vocals. For Servitude (2024), Ryan Knight would assume guitars so Eschbach could take over vocals due to the suicide of Strnad back in 2022. Read Less... ⏫
