Cop Shoot Cop

ndustrial rock group Cop Shoot Cop, usually considered as a kind of punk rock, was founded in New York City in 1987 with a distinctive instrumental lineup featuring twin bass guitars, 'found' metal percussion, and no lead guitar. The group had little mainstream success outside of college radio where they obtained a kind of cult following. They started as a trio of Tod A. (vocals/bass guitar), David Ouimet (keyboards/sampler) and Phil Puleo on drums and "metal" (he incorporated various found objects into his drum set); Tod and Puleo had earlier played the short-lived Providence, Rhode Island group, Dig Dat Hole, with guitarist John Rose.

Cop Shoot Cop's initial attempts to promote themselves involved the use of posters stating only "CopShootCop" around New York; observers often thought the posters were a political protest against police brutality.

Cop Shoot Cop then added Jack Natz (bass; ex-The Undead) leaving Tod to sing, but this experiment was short lived due to popular demand forcing Tod to start playing bass again along with Natz.

Consumer Revolt (1990), White Noise (1991) and Ask Questions Later (1993) would result.

During this time, Ouimet rejoined and left the group several times; Jim Coleman was recruited to replace him on sampler, and on their last recording, they surprised fans by recruiting guitarist Steve McMillen.
