Dying FetusBIOGRAPHYDying Fetus (1991-present): a Death Metal band from Baltimore, Maryland, USA. S elf-reliance and musical integrity are two principles that Dying Fetus has always lived by. The band was formed in 1991 by John Gallagher (guitar/vocals/drums on demo), Jason Netherton (bass/vocals), Sparky Voyles (guitar) during the height of the death metal movement to become recognized worldwide as a prime example of songwriting perfection, combining an innovative mix of technical virtuosity and catchy song structures to create a complex blend of death metal, hardcore, and grindcore. Their sounds and lyrics have been a brutal response to the everyday stress and pressures of reality in our age. After their demo Bathe In Entrails (1993), in 1995 their first album, Infatuation with Malevolence (a compilation of the bands demo material from 93-94), featuring Rob Belton (drums) was self-released, promoted and distributed. They then toured the East Coast of the USA, and performed, and represented the death metal genre on a panel at the CMJ music convention at Lincoln Center, N.Y. The next year, their second album Purification through Violence was released simultaneously in America on 'Pulverizer Records' and in Europe on 'Diehard Music Worldwide' with another tour , their first full North American tour, hitting 25 cities with Canada's Kataklysm and Florida's Monstrosity in July and August. Dying Fetus supported the release with a nine week, 52 date North American and European tour, hitting 12 countries. The band performed dozens of festivals and promotional undertakings, including co/headlining shows such as the Milwaukee Metalfest, Montreal Metalfest, German Morbid Metalfest, Ohio Deathfest, and the Superbowl Of Hardcore. The following year their then out of print, Infatuation with Malevolence was re-issued with extra tracks. The new version of the '93-'94 demo collection included 3 live songs from Germany recorded on the 1998 European tour, as well as one demo track not part of the previous edition of the CD. The release was released with new artwork and was available exclusively through the band's own label. Grotesque Impalement (2000) followed as a 6 song EP available in both CD and limited 12-inch vinyl versions and was supported with several festivals and a European tour, including tours supporting Destructionand Vader. In September of that year their Destroy the Opposition, was released through 'Relapse Records', followed-up with another European tour, this time with Morbid Angel, Enslaved, The Crown, Behemoth (UK) and Hypnos as part of the annual X-Mass tour. Soon after their early 2001 tour with All Out War, Diecast, Skinless, Gorguts and The Berserker the band faced a major line-up change when Netherton (bass/vocals), Voyles and Kevin Talley (drums; who had taken over from Belton) all left the band. Dying Fetus reformed with Erik Sayenga (drums), Sean Beasley (bass), Vince Matthews (vocals), and Bruce Greig (guitar) for summer tours, and recorded a new single entitled Vengeance Unleashed (2001). That touring continued into the next year in Japan with Sodom, as well as a headlining tour of Europe with Monstrosity and Howitzer and an appearance at the Wacken Open Air Festival Greig then left the act leaving the band as a four-piece for the rest of the year until Mike Kimball relocated to Maryland to join in October. Stop at Nothing arrived May 13, 2003 through 'Relapse Records'. The band then went on a seven-week spring tour in the USA with Hate Eternal, Kataklysm, and Into Eternity, including shows with Goatwhore. (An unfortunate van accident caused Hate Eternal to leave the tour after 13 shows, but Dying Fetus fronted the rest of the dates). The band went on their own headlining US/Canadian tour in July through August, along with Skinless, Divine Empire, and Misery Index. During their stop in Atlanta at The Masquerade, Dying Fetus filmed their first video, for the song One Shot, One Kill, not to mention playing their first show in Puerto Rico in November. The next year was spent in Europe for more touring with Hate Eternal, Deeds of Flesh, Prejudice, Malevolent Creation and some gigs in the US and Canada with Suffocation, Burnt By The Sun, The End and Malamor. After their debut in Mexico they were reunited with original vocalist/bassist David Vincent while dismissing vocalist Vince Matthews in October due to musical, professional, and personal differences. The membership of John Gallagher (guitars/vocals), Sean Beasley (bass/vocals), Mike Kimball (guitars/lyrics) and Duane Timlin (drums) would return with War of Attrition (2007). With Trey Williams on drums, and without Limball, Descend into Depravity, History Repeats... (EP), Reign Supreme, Wrong One to Fuck With and Make Them Beg for Death would emerge in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2017, and 2023 respectively. Read Less... ⏫
