Descend Into NothingnessBIOGRAPHYDescend Into Nothingness (1998-2001, 2002-2004, 2007-2008): a Death Metal band from Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada. T he concept of Descend Into Nothingness was formed by Joel St-Amant in 1998. The purpose of the concept was to play music that could be intense and melodic, with a progressive constant rhythm that changed during the songs creating a dynamic variation. After a couple of shows and line-up changes, the band made its first notable show with Quo Vardis and Martyr. After that, the band started to prepare to record its first demo, but a split up occurred due to a lack of motivation. In autumn 2002, Joël St-Amant decided to reform the band with two members from the previous line-up (Hugo Lacroix and Éric Delarosbil) in Rouyn-Noranda (in the Abitibi region). At that time, the line-up consisted of: Joël St-Amant (guitar/vocals), Hugo Lacroix (guitar), Simon Charette (guitar), Sébastien Audet (bass) and Éric Delarosbil (drums). In the beginning of November 2002, Éric Delarosbil left the band for personal reasons and was immediately replaced by François Turgeon. Descend Into Northngness made two shows in Rouyn-Noranda before entering the studio in March 2003 with Yannick St-Amand (Despised Icon, Martyr and Neuraxis) to record its first album, Darkened Reality. In May 2003, the Abitibian quintet signed with 'Galy Records' (home also of black metal band UnexpecT) to release the album on September 2nd of the same year. The EP, Empowerment of the Oppressed, followed in 2007 under the membership of Sergei Vézina (bass), Joël St-Amant (vocals/guitars), Matt Connell (drums), Ian Campbell (vocals) and Sébastien Audet (guitars). The band split up sometime a year later.
