Sinner (1980-present): a Heavy Metal band from Stuttgart, Germany.

ormed in 1980 Sinner was created by Matthias Lasch (a.k.a. Matt Sinner; born 16 October 1964; vocals/bass), who recruited like minded Judas Priest loving musicians in the form of Wolfgang Werner (guitar), Calo Rapallo (guitar/vocals), Franky Mittelbach (keyboards/vocals) and Edgar Patrik (drums) to feed on imported meals of NWOBHM records to release a set of heavy metal/hard rock albums widely dismissed as amateurish during the early and mid 1980s like Wild 'n' Evil (1985), Fast Decision (1983; with Helmo Stoner replacing Werner and Rapallo), Danger Zone (1984; with Mick Shirley replacing Mittelbachand Ralf Schulz replacing Patrik) before a total line-up modification occurred when Lasch and Stoner hired Hermann Frank and Bernie Van Der Graaf to take over guitar and drums Respectively to try again with Touch of Sin (1985) and Comin' out Fighting (1986). Andy Susemihl and Armin Mucke then replaced Frank on guitars, while Stoner would be replaced by Mathias Ulmer for Dangerous Charm (1987). By this time, however, their records were still only released in Germany and the record label got fed up and let them loose; the band subsequently split. Lasch would subsequently go on to release a solo album titled Back To The Bullet for 'BMG Ariola' as Mat Sinner.

When the act reformed in 1992 another set of relatively uninspiring albums resulted on the German 'Posh' and 'No Bull' labels including No More Alibis (1992), Bottom Line (1995), Respect (1995), In the Line of Fire (1996; live) and Judgement Day (1997) before changing to 'Nuclear Blast' for the much improved The Nature of Evil (Live In Europe) (1998), The Second Decade - The Best Of Sinner (1999) "best of..." compilation, and The End of Sanctuary (2000), the 2000 gig featuring a new line-up with Lasch hireing Benny Wolter (ex-Thunderheart; guitar), Alex Beyroth (guitar), Frank Rossler (keyboards) and Uli Kusch (of Helloween; drums), Lasch also sidelined with Primal Fear for a time. The act's popularity was finally on the rise even in their homeland.

The early 2000's might have been Sinner's best period. All the same, the band has never had spectacular sales, their best ever was 1998's Sinner's Nature of Evil selling barely 100,000 units. With very little advertising, they managed to get by with word of mouth. There Will Be Execution (2003), Mask of Sanity (2007), Crash & Burn (2008), One Bullet Left (2011), Touch of Sin 2 (2013), Tequila Suicide (2017), Santa Muerte (2019) and Brotherhood (2022) followed.
