Database Refactoring Disaster!
In an effort to modernize our database code set and reduce data entry errors we created an automated program to rummage through the database and convert the necessary code components. Problem: It was not known until AFTER the backups had permeated through our systems that the affected records, nearly 500 in total, were damaged or outright scrambled!! For the last 3 weeks we have been manually replacing or rewriting parts or all of these articles. As a result no new entries have been entered and services which depend on the database were frozen (read only) until the repairs could be completed. We are pleased to say repairs are now complete and normal operations will be returning this weekend, with a refactored database. |
