Probot

he band Probot was a heavy metal side project of ex-Nirvana drummer and ex-Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl which resulted in a single release in the form of the self-titled Probot in 2004.

After years of popularity in the alternative rock scene, Grohl wanted to express the passion for heavy metal he enjoyed since his youth. He once mentioned that the catalyst of the experience was during the first leg of the tour in support of the Foo Fighters album There Is Nothing Left to Lose, with the mellower songs making him think about the heavier bands he used to listen to. Following the tour, Grohl went to his house in Alexandria, Virginia, to record some heavier songs in his home studio Studio 606. The resulting self-titled album was described by Grohl as "a death metal Supernatural". The album mixes instrumentals recorded by Grohl himself with various heavy metal singers whom he admired, those being: Cronos (vocals (lead)/bass: track 1), Max Cavalera (vocals (lead: track 2)), Lemmy (R.I.P. 2015; vocals (lead)/bass: track 3), Mike Dean (vocals (lead: track 4)), Kurt Brecht(vocals (lead: track 5)), Lee Dorrian(vocals (lead: track 6)), Bubba Dupree (guitars: track 4), Scott "Wino" Weinrich (vocals (lead)/guitars: track 7), Tom G. Warrior (vocals (lead: track 8)), Kim Thayil (guitars (additional: tracks 6, 11)), Erol Unala (guitars: track 8), Snake (vocals (lead: track 9)), Eric Wagner (R.I.P. 2021; vocals (lead: track 10)), King Diamond (vocals (lead: track 11)), Jack Black (vocals (lead)/guitars (acoustic: track 11)) and Matt Sweeney (guitars (additional: track 9)), an idea inspired by the Santana album Supernatural.
