SadusBIOGRAPHYSadus (1985-present): a Thrash Metal band from Antioch, California, USA. T aking their name from 'the Fremen', a group of people in the Dune novel story, a name that denotes "holy judges" (or more precisely 'saints') as suggested the band's friend Rickey Lee Rogers who suggested it would make an easy logo, Sadus formed in 1985 with Darren Travis (vocals), Rob Moore (guitars), Steve Di Giorgio (bass) and Jon Allen (drums) at the helm. A year later, the band would release their demo tape D.T.P. (Death to Posers). These sessions led directly to the inclusion of two tracks on the 1987 Raging Death split compilation album with Xecutioner, Lethal Presence, Betrayel and R.A.V.A.G.E.. Quick to capitalize on this achievement, Sadus stuck their hands in their pockets to self finance the debut album, Illusions (1988), pulling in Metal Church guitarist John Marshall as producer in the process. The pace of progress was quickened by signing with 'Roadrunner Records' for the next album, Swallowed in Black (1990) and touring with the likes of Sepultura and Obituary. Sadus was put on hold during 1991 as Di Giorgio left for a bit to assist Death for their Human album. With this added exposure 'Roadrunner' re-released the Illusions debut but retitled as Chemical Exposure while Sadus regrouped for a summer American tour opening for Morbid Angel. Although a the follow-up album, A Vision of Misery (1992), resulted in a European headline tour, Sadus found itself labelless upon their return. Further setbacks occurred when Di Giorgio was enticed back to Death for their Individual Thought Patterns album and a subsequent year-long bout of touring. Di Giorgio was to return for club shows with Sadus but it wasn't long before Moore left resulting in any gained momentum to be halted in its tracks. Di Giorgio, however, was restless and, along with drummer Jon Allen, operated a side project called Dragonheart (later renamed to Dragonlord) with former Vicious Rumours and Testament guitarists Steve Smyth and Eric Peterson. Di Giorgio then teamed up with Iced Earth in late 2000. By 2002 Travis and bassist Di Giorgio were embarked on another all star union billed as Suicide Shift along with Testament vocalist Chuck Billy and drummer Per Moller Jensen of The Haunted, with guitar offerings from Death and Cancer guitarist James Murphy. The 'Hammerheart' label would put the band's original Death To Posers 1986 demo onto CD in 2003, adding a brace of cuts from a 1988 session, Certain Death, as a bonus. After several more side-projects and touring, Sadus returned in 2006 with Out for Blood. By 2023 and the release of The Shadow Inside on the 'Nuclear Blast' label, however, the band's membership had been reduced to a two-some featuring only Allen and Travis.
