Vorkuta

Biography

Vorkuta (2002-present): a Black Metal band from Zalaegerszeg, Hungary.

O

riginally known as Fjord and named after a remote city and the unofficial name for a region in the North of the European part of Russia where many gulag camps were located, Hungary's Vorkuta began in 2002 with the aim to create cold and desecrating black metal. The band started out with the release of an unsatisfactory demo called Apocalypse before changing their name to the present Vorkuta under which they released several limited editions and split releases, as well as appearing in a double LP tribute to Bathory titled A Tribute from the Hordes to Bathory.

In 2006 the act caught the attention of 'Paragon Records' who would release their debut album, Into The Chasms of Lunacy the following year featuring the membership of Inmar (Real Name: Bálint Berki; guitars/bass), Martin B. Hellspike (guitars/bass/synthesizer) and Blizzard (Real Name: Márton Pelényi; vocals). The album showcased the band's ability to create old-school black metal along with the newer more symphonic styles.

The act was quiet until 2018 when the compilation ...Where Still Darkness Dwells appeared. By this time Nihilist (Real Name: Tamás Paksa; drums) had joined.
