tarted by shaven-head Lesbian frontwoman Skin (Real Name: Deborah Dyer; vocals) and Cass Lewis (Real Name: Richard Lewis; bass) and with Ace (Real Name: Martin Kent; guitar) and Robbie France (drums) completing the line-up. After only a handful of gigs the act got themselves signed but their first release was nothing more than a BBC radio one broadcast sold unofficially and via mail order titled Little Baby Swastikka, but in March of 1995 the single proper was released in the form of Selling Jesus, a song that managed 46 in the U.K. Later that same year their debut album finally emerged titled Paranoid & Sunburnt, an album that clearly showcased the scary Skin and her howling vocals. The most noted track on the album was Weak, a song that got 20 on it's own in the U.K., with the album managing an 8 over-all on the same charts. The album also featured the arrival of Louis replacing Robbie on drums.
Skunk Anansie now took some time off as well to team up with Bjork for her Army Of Me single.
When they returned to the studio again, Mark Richardson took over from Louis for the Stoosh (1996) album, an even more soulful angst ridden affair than their debut; the track of note being the 14 U.K. charting All I Want, when turned single, with the album making 9 U.K. over-all. Yes It's Fucking Political, the first track on the album, seemed to sum up what the act was all about. After a set of EPs they would finally complete their latest to date Post Organic Chill (1999), another top 20 affair at 16 U.K.
