Mortification

S

traddling between Death and Thrash Metal, Mortification has become a prolific contributor to the Christian Metal movement, a rarity since they don't follow the normal Pop Metal leanings of their contemporaries. The lyrics can be heavy-handed. Founder Steve Rowe's much-noted bout with cancer in 1996 put the band on hold briefly, but it is now behind him.

Mortification started out around 1990 under the guidance of Steve Rowe (bass/vocals), Cameron Hall (guitar) and Jayson Sherlock (drums) to release Break The Curse, their self-titled album following the next year now with Michael Carlisle replacing Hall. This line-up would remain for Scrolls Of The Megilloth (1992), Post Momentary Affliction (1993) and Live Planetarium (1993). Blood World (1994) would see Sherlock leave and replaced with Phil Gibson. But 1995's Primitive Rhythm Machine saw an entire line-up change with Rowe replacing the incumbents withGeorge Ochoa and Bill Rice. But after the The Best Of Five Years “Best of…” compilation in 1995, the line-up was changed again with Lincoln Bowen and Keith Bannister replacing Ochoa and Rice respectively. Live Without Fear EP (1996), Noah Sat Down ... EP (1996), Triumph Of Mercy (1998), Hammer Of God (1999) and the 10 Years Live Not Dead “best of…” (2000). On The Silver Cord Is Severed (2001) Bannister was gone and replaced withAdam Zaffarese. And after the 2002 “best of…” Power, Pain & Passion 1990-2000, Relentless (2002) would be their latest.
