The Hard Rock outfit that was to become Dropzone was founded by George Skoupas (guitar/bass/drums/vocals) and Will Ramirez (guitar/vocals) in the Toronto suburb of Brampton, Ontario when Will met George while trying out for his previous outfit Intolerance. A side project titled Mofo would briefly emerge after Intolerance broke up two years later. They recorded a 5 song EP and one show before Will quit, ending the band. 4 years later George was finishing tracks for his premier solo album, Chaos And Tranquility, when Will rejoined to add his vocals. Shortly after some DJ friends would partner up with the pair to rent a studio, stock it with gear and their debut album, Rock And Roll, resulted in 2001.
