ew Brazilian bands are from the Doom sub-genre but Mythological Cold Towers would be a pioneer in that movement there with their 1996 debut Sphere of Nebaddon: The Dawn of a Dying Tyffereth with Samej (vocals), Nechron (guitars), Leonard (bass), Hamon (drums) and Flagellum (Real Name: Gilberto Santana, first on guitar and then switched to keyboards after 1998 when Akenaton quit).
The debut album would prove to be a prototypical Doom/Death album much in the style of early My Dying Bride or Paradise Lost. Although the album failed to gain marks for being original it was nonetheless a competent release within the genre. The follow-up release of Remoti Meridiani Hymni: Towards the Magnificent Realm of the Sun (2000), sans Akenaton,, added Gothic and Ethnic influences into a decidedly more original work.
By the release of The Vanished Pantheon (2005) a shake-up of sorts had occurred with Leonard leaving the bass position open for Lord Morpheus to occupy until 2005 when Lord Mephyr would take it. In 2007 Flagellum would leave.
After the release of Immemorial (2011) the bass slot would reopen for Thormianak (Real Name: Marcos Rizzato), then Yaotzin to take in time for the release of Monvmenta Antiqva (2015). The release, however, was without Hécate (Real Name: Susane Rodrigues de Oliveira) who joined on keyboards between the two recordings but was gone by the time of this latest release.
