Though there are more recent bands with the name Phantom Lord, this version was an obscure group whose self-titled debut album resembled early Metallica with shades of NWOBHM, but with less promising results for it came across as messy and poorly produced. Phantom Lord with the membership of John Leone (vocals), Jack Starr (guitar), Steve Price (guitar), Ned Meloni (bass) and Joe Hasselvander (drums) released two forgettable albums in the form of Phantom Lord (1985) and Evil Never Sleeps (1986) before splitting.
Most members would move on to bigger and better things with Leone in Attacker, Starr in Guardians Of The Flame, Virgin Steele, Devil Childe and Burning Starr, Meloni in Devil Childe, and most notably Hasselvander in Raven, Pentagram and Devil Childe.
Footnote: It was later revealed that Phantom Lord was a side project for former Virgin Steele guitarist Jack Starr. The second album listed the correct lineup, while the first album listed fake German names.
