The Church Of Gary Numan: A Dark Celebration was intended as a one-off tribute to long-time musician and songwriter, Gary Numan, whose biggest period of popularity was in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Gary Numan's songs were re-interpreted and performed by Jim Collins, a huge fan, with assistance by Josh Roman, and Rick Franklin when his wife realized that Jim Collins enjoyed Numan's work a lot and jokingly suggested he open a church in his name. Many of the tracks were redone in a more Gothic, sci-fi, darker tone. An accompanying documentary video was apparently completed as well. A second release on a different topic was released in late 2003.
