Oppressor

Biography

Oppressor (1991-1999): a Death Metal band from Chicago, Illinois, USA.

N

ew York style grinding death metal in the style of Malevolent Creation and Suffocation is what Chi-Town band Oppressor offered. Under the single line-up of Tim King (vocals/bass/keyboards), Adam Zadel (guitar), Jim Stopper (guitar) and Tom Schofield (drums) they managed to release four albums, Solstice of Oppression (1994), the European Oppression Live (1995) a live and demo compilation including their very early work of As Blood Flows demo (1993), Agony (1996) and Elements of Corrosion (1998). But in 1997 the entire band except Jim Stopper teamed up with fellow Chicago metaller Shaun Glass (ex-Sindrome/ex-Broken Hope) to form a side project, which became the heavy alternative rock band Soil. Eventually Soil became the full-time band for the members, signalling the end of Oppressor. Stopper went on to join Twelfth Gate. The Solstice of Agony and Corrosion compilation followed posthumously in 2009.
