Leviathan

Biography

Leviathan (1998-present): a Black Metal band from San Francisco, California, USA.

S

tarting in 1998 Leviathan was formed by Jef Whitehead using the pseudonym Wrest who was the only permanent member, and performed all vocals and instruments, starting with the release of The Tenth Sub Level of Suicide (2003), and following with Tentacles of Whorror (2004), A Silhouette in Splinters (2005), The Speed of Darkness (EP; 2006) and The Blind Wound (EP; 2006).

Wrest has also collaborated with the band Sunn O))), and the US black metal supergroup Twilight from its formation until it disbanded in 2014.

Wrest also played and recorded everything in his other project, Lurker of Chalice, releasing two demos and one full length album in 2005 before dissolving. He briefly ended Leviathan after Massive Conspiracy Against all Life (2008), allegedly due to a legal struggle between himself and 'Moribund Records', his new label.

Wrest was arrested on January 9, 2011 on charges of sexual assault and domestic violence. Faced with six charges stemming from the incident, Wrest maintained his innocence and, May 2012, was found not guilty of all charges except for one count of aggravated domestic battery.
