Being a musician or even a label means you have to struggle to get your releases heard. If it isn’t the radio stations refusing to hear you then it’s the stores who refuse to stock you. It’s really a “catch-22” situation because without air play how do you get fans to demand you enough that the stores will stock you, and without the stores how do you make sales?

The problem is extended farther when you realize that your music may not even be distributed in your hometown, leaving your friends and family travelling miles to buy your recordings or going without the opportunity to access your work.

Let's face it - music sales and distribution is a pain. Those of you who have been doing this for a while know what we mean and those of you who are new will surely find out. It is the business in music business! The Diskery was started to help make that necessary evil a little easier. We are here to help you. We are an independent operator who wishes to serve others of the same mind set. By listing with us you help us and in return we offer you a free listing, a support mechanism from which to sell your music. Don't pay someone for services you don't need and don't trade your music away for free - come here! You don't have to be Grammy nominated or represented by a big label either, that's nice but it isn't needed. If you are serious about exposing your music then Diskery is for you.

We accept the following formats: Cassette, Vinyl (Record) and Compact Discs (CD).

To ensure your material will be accepted and avoid the expense of shipping and time of the paperwork we encourage you to fill out the electronic form first or send us a simple in the mail.

• We are trans-border - this means we sell and buy from everyone no matter where you are located and we sell worldwide.
• Diskery takes NO money from any government or public funding source!
• Diskery is one of the most technological systems offered.
• 1.6 Days that's the average turn-around time between the receipt of an order into our system and the shipping of the requested order. Most distributors and mail order houses require at least twice that!

Your First Shipment:
Signing up for Diskery's service is a simple matter of visiting our website and filling out the on-line forms then sending in your sales agreement with your first shipment of CDs (minimum 6: 5 to sell and one at no charge for the "manager", this copy confirms that you are telling the truth in what you are giving us but also is used to create your multimedia pages. We listen to all music submitted so we can help customers when questions are asked). When sending us your package please be sure to mark them as "commercial samples" or "gift" on your customs form (if from outside Canada) so that we do not get charged import taxes or GST. The GST (national Value Added Tax) we can get rebated from the government perhaps, but the import taxes will be charged back to you/deducted from any payments we send you when your music sells.

What's the catch?

• You are responsible for your own marketing and advertising. You MUST promote your material! Just like an any other store or distributor. Here, however, we can sometimes help with discounts on magazine ads, display at our web site, radio promos. and addresses to media sources. You are also licensed to use our store and company logos for your marketing purposes. You must at least be making an effort at selling your releases to stay on the network. Each release is reviewed internally on its anniversary date. The sales quota isn't high, even if all you sell is 5 a year this is fine with us.
• You MUST list a link to Diskery at your website.
• Although most get sales, there is no guarantee of sales while using our system.

Diskery utilizes some of the most sophisticated technology ever devised for selling music...if we are willing to take this much time and effort to present your release in a professional manner why would you use anyone else?

Diskery was one of the first on-line retailers of music and remains one of the most technologically advanced!

At Diskery we consider the cost of putting your music in our database: an average of at least 30 minutes per disc, the cost of doing business and our commitment to you!

We scan your album cover in at least 2 sizes, crop & color adjust your pictures, scan music samples, edit and post your album description, set-up the e-commerce and notify our current clients of your presence. AND YES - WE LISTEN TO EVERY CD TITLE YOU SUBMIT.

As for payment?

• All items are sold on CONSIGNMENT. Sorry, NO BARTER TRADES. That means you get paid when we sell your music. Normally we send payments by check or money order (soon by PayPal via credit card) when your total sales meets $50US or more. We can't pay directly on each sale at the time it is made because the bank costs would be prohibitive.
  
• All members are paid in U.S. dollars (Canadian residents are paid in Canadian Dollars).
  
• The price you are paid is your wholesale price, this is the amount you say you want to be paid when your item sells, retail and other pricing structures used at Diskery will be set by us. Diskery currently takes only $2 over your wholesale price as mark-up at the store.

Diskery is a subsidiary of a much larger organization Emperor Multimedia Corporation. Your agreement with us is handled by them. Not to worry they are very receptive to new music and are keen on making Diskery your musical home.

Who Should Not Sell Here?

• Those who expect immediate high volume sales.
• Those who have no plans of promotion for their music.
• Those who are not prepared to make their music available outside of their local area.

Although we could list hundreds of reasons why you should join with us (and many are already listed at this site), let's be sure there is no mistake.

It is important to note! Diskery is not an old-fashioned hand-held distribution system that ships mass amounts of recordings to hundreds of stores nationally. Although we can do this, if necessary, our main objective is to get your music into the hands of your fans. Our retail affiliates are provided as a convenience tool for customers to purchase your music; they are an additional, or option, to the integrated web site structure, but not it's main outlet.

Although Diskery has limited promotions capability we generally operate like any music store. We promote you within our network but it is your responsibility to get the customers to buy your music in the first place. Since there is no fee for the use of our service directly, we expect you will take that savings and invest it into advertising yourself. However, keep in mind: do not use Diskery like it was some sort of cure-all pill. If your music isn't selling through major or even large distributors now, or quite frankly if "you suck", then signing up to Diskery will not solve your problems and you should re-think how your music career is shaping up. If you don't agree with this philosophy then you probabaly don't want to sell here.

Why "Membership"?

Membership is not the right word, but it is the best one that describes your application procedure. "Membership" is required so that both you and us understand all the elements of our business relationship. It also gives us the opportunity to open an account with your information under standardized procedures, ensuring that you get paid and all the benefits due you. Diskery does not allow "non-members" access to its resources and only individual customers need no "membership" or "subscription".

Further to this, laws in our jurisdiction forbid us from handling your music in this manner without prior written agreement. This agreement also protects both you an us and ensures we both understand the business policies and rules we must follow.

Returning Artist?

The Economics of it?

If the other aspects of Diskery doesn't impress you then perhaps the economics will. Think of it this way: What does it cost you now to sell your music? Be realistic in your calculations and remember to deduct the cost of production, manufacture, studio, advertising, etc. from any money you make from sales because that isn't profit - just deferred spending. OK, after all that is divided amongst the number of discs you want to sell, does it make sense to keep paying, even for distribution? Distribution has been free since the industry was discovered more than 100 years ago. If you are paying fees, and it is not selling enough to cover those basic costs AND put something in your pocket, why are you doing it? If you were to go it alone think of the expense of running your own toll free lines, credit card e-commerce and international shipping; never mind the cost of a professional web site. Why should you spend more then you have to? At Diskery you only have to send us some CD's...not even a huge number of them and do some marketing, we do the rest. Diskery is a cheaper and faster system - no gimmicks, no joke, no "catch". You will never get a bill from Diskery for a listing in our catalog!
