AQUISITION OF A SIGNAL (TUNING IN):
Our broadcast can be heard 2 ways depending on your computer's capabilities and your preferences. The main way is to receive the signal from your web browser here. The website gives you the full features of the service. It also supports one of our sponsors. If you plan on receiving our service via the Microsoft Windows Media package, you will have to use this method.
The second way is direct via your Winamp receiver. Start by clicking here to listen.
It is recommended you install all software prior to your favorite show's broadcast time so that you are ready. You need only install the software once.
If you tune into our broadcast BEFORE its broadcast time you will hear nothing (no signal). If you log in between 2-5 minutes before the broadcast begins you MAY hear a steady beeping sound accompanied by a lot of static. This is a test signal we use to calibrate our equipment on this side to be sure we are ready to go AND it serves to allow you a homing signal... In essence the count down. This is sent by request of users or those planning to simulcast the service. A few seconds before the show this signal will halt and the show will begin. The signal is loud and obnoxious but lasts only 1:53! Click Here to hear it now. The signal is actually a looped recording of the 1957 Russian Sputnik-1 satellite telemetry signal (YES the sound quality is bad, and YES the show quality will be much better!)
IT IS RECOMMENDED: That while listening if there is content you do not like you DO NOT CLOSE your receiver. It is best to just press the "pause" icon or turn down the volume because once you leave there is no guarantee you will get back in as the number of listeners that can connect is high but limited and you may loose your place in the queue.
I AM LISTENING VIA THE LISTEN2MYRADIO WEBSITE. CAN I SURF AWAY AND STILL LISTEN?
Yes, you can surf away and even close your web browser once your media player is launched.
The only time you cannot is if you are using the Listen2myradio built in Media Player, in which case, you must launch another browser window to surf away and keep the utility one open. To bypass their automated service just click on the link that says "Can't hear anything..." (Ie: pretend you can't hear), then your computer will launch it's own receiver and you can freely surf away while listening.
IS THE LISTEN2MYRADIO WEBPAGE ACCURATE WHEN IT SAYS THE NUMBER OF LISTENERS?
Yes... and no... It counts the listeners that are directly connected it its page (like a page counter), it is slow at updating those connected directly and sometimes misses them altogether.
CAN I USE OTHER APPLICATIONS WHILE I HEAR YOUR BROADCAST?
Yes. The broadcast will play in the background. If you have a slow Internet connection or processor (or simply too many applications running), however, you may receive a choppy signal if your computer cannot keep up.
WHAT SPEED/QUALITY DO YOU TRANSMIT AT?
Via Listen2myradio it's at 64Kps, slightly better than FM radio... bordering on Satellite quality, through other backup signals it could be downgraded to 56Kps (FM radio). All signals are in stereo. This is done automatically for you by the receiver.
